August 14, (THEWILL) – Former Manchester United striker, Jude Odion Ighalo, is on the brink of completing a transfer to Saudi Arabian Pro League side, Al Wehda.
Reports monitored by THEWILL revealed that the forward has successfully undergone a medical evaluation with Al Wehda, setting the stage for his imminent introduction to the club’s fans. Pending the finalisation of the deal, Ighalo is poised to sign a two-year contract, keeping him with the team until the culmination of the 2024/2025 season.
Ighalo’s move to Al Wehda comes in the wake of unsuccessful negotiations for a contract extension with Al Hilal, the club where he previously featured for the entirety of the last season, with his footballing talents seeing him make the Team of the Season. The 34-year-old enjoyed a productive stint of one and a half seasons with Al Hilal, amassing an impressive record of 43 goals and seven assists in 60 appearances spanning various competitions.
Renowned for his dogged approach on the field, Ighalo’s status in the Saudi Pro League was further heightened by his recognition as the top scorer of the 2021/2022 season and his instrumental role in Al Hilal’s league victory in 2022.
Despite ranking third in last season’s scoring charts with 19 goals, he trailed only slightly behind the Golden Boot winner, Abderrazak Hamdallah of Al Ittihad, the club that lifted the season’s trophy.
