ICPC Boss Reveals Why War Against Corruption Is Gaining Momentum

BEVERLY HILLS, February 06, (THEWILL) – Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta, has revealed that the ongoing war against corruption is gaining momentum because of the anti-corruption disposition of President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said had been leading by example.

This was as he added that another reason why the fight against graft is making progress is because more Nigerians are keying into the crusade.
A statement issued on Friday by the ICPC quotes Nta as disclosing this on a television programme where he said the international community had started reckoning with the anti-corruption drive of the government.

He added that the anti-corruption fight had also been generating interest from the grassroots in Nigeria as even local communities had willingly been reporting people they suspect as living above their means, unlike when indigenes of some communities used to be hostile to operatives of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies whenever they want to make arrests.

The statement reads in part, “The seriousness with which the war is being fought in Nigeria has been eliciting responses from countries that have been promising to offer assistance to Nigeria in its fight against corruption.

“ICPC has long taken preventive measures towards advancing the course of the fight against corruption through the promotion of ethics and integrity from childhood.

“We have also alluded to the launching of National Values Curriculum in schools since 2007 to inculcate ethics in students at primary and secondary schools, which is in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council.”
