August 30, (THEWILL) – Nigerian iconic singer, Onyeka Onwenu, has been laid to rest on Friday in Lagos.
Fondly known as the “Elegant Stallion”, THEWILL had reported that the 72-year-old songwriter and actress was confirmed dead on July 30 at Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where she was rushed to after she slumped shortly after performing at the birthday party of Mrs Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
The service of songs was earlier held in her honour at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, and was attended by prominent figures. The burial ceremony followed immediately at the Ebony Vaults, James George Street, Off Alagbon Close in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, was among the public figures present at the event.
Family members, friends and clergymen stood at the gravesite to pay their last respects as the singer’s corpse was lowered into the grave on Friday, August 30, 2024.
