August 11, (THEWILL) – Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has revealed that he was once paid N50,000 to shoot a movie.
The actor, who has spent over four decades in the movie industry, made this known in an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.
According to him, the first cheque he received to shoot a movie was N50,000.
“I was sitting with my wife in the parlour when somebody from Lagos came to give me a check for fifty thousand to make a film,” the Nollywood legend stated.
Fortunately for him, the paycheck came at the right time, as he had just lost his broadcasting job due to religious differences and internal issues, which he did not elaborate on during the conversation.
Recalling how the conversation with his wife went after losing his job, he said his wife encouraged him to pursue his acting career despite the meagre amount he would be earning from it.
“I told my wife my work was over. She hugged me, bought me a bottle of beer, and said, ‘Pete, you’ve always wanted to be an actor; the time has come.’ At that time, my salary as the director was ₦9000 per month,” he revealed.
