March 24, (THEWILL) – Denmark kicked off their European Championship Group H qualifying campaign with a resounding 3-1 victory over Finland at the Parken Stadium on Thursday.
Rasmus Hojlund proved to be the star of the night, netting a superb hat-trick to give the home side a winning start. It was all the better as the Danes were already without playmaker, Christian Eriksen, due to an ankle injury, and things looked bleak when defender, Andreas Christensen, was forced to leave the pitch in the 18th minute due to a leg injury.
However, the home fans were soon celebrating as Hojlund scored the opener just three minutes later. Despite Finland striking back early in the second half, with Oliver Antman scoring off a swift counterattack, the Danish team kept pushing for the win.
Hojlund, in particular, was in fine form, with goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky having to make several brilliant saves to keep Finland in the game. However, Hojlund’s two late goals ensured Denmark’s victory.
