July 22, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, has joined Olympique de Marseille on loan for the 2024/2025 season. The deal includes an option for Marseille to purchase the player permanently for a reported fee of around £16 million.
Hojbjerg, 28, made 184 appearances for Spurs since joining in 2020 from Southampton. However, the Danish international found himself lower in the midfield pecking order last season under manager Ange Postecoglou.
Marseille, now managed by former Brighton and Hove Albion boss, Roberto De Zerbi, will begin their Ligue 1 campaign on August 18 against Brest. The French club has been active in the transfer market, also signing former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.
Hojbjerg’s move comes with one year remaining on his Tottenham contract. The midfielder previously played for Bayern Munich before his stint at Southampton.
This transfer continues the reshaping of Tottenham’s squad under Postecoglou, with Hojbjerg joining several other players who have departed the North London club this summer.
