June 01, (THEWILL) – Mike Tyson’s highly anticipated boxing match against Jake Paul has been postponed indefinitely due to Tyson suffering from a recent ulcer flare-up, Netflix announced on Friday. The streaming giant was set to broadcast the event on July 20.
As per a statement from Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Tyson’s doctors have recommended minimal light training for the former heavyweight champion over the next few weeks to aid his recovery. A new date for the bout will be revealed by next Friday, June 7.
“I want to thank my fans worldwide for their support during this time. Unfortunately, my doctor has advised me to lighten my training to rest and recover from this ulcer flare-up,” Tyson told Netflix. However, he added that his overall physical condition is better than it has been in decades. Paul expressed support for the postponement, but stated: “Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night.”
Netflix confirmed that previously purchased tickets for the AT&T Stadium event in Arlington, Texas, will remain valid for the rescheduled date. Both boxers have made clear their intention to have the fight soon. “MVP anticipates rescheduling the match at AT&T Stadium later this year and looks forward to an exciting, well-prepared contest between these exceptional athletes,” the promotion company stated.
On Sunday, Tyson suffered a medical incident midflight from Miami to Los Angeles due to nausea and dizziness from an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing, as per his representatives. The bout will be Tyson’s first professional fight since 2005.
