Gunmen Kill Policemen, Three Others In Benue

June 24, (THEWILL) – At least five people, including two policemen, a university lecturer and two others have been killed in separate attacks on two Local Government Areas of Benue State.

The policemen were reportedly shot dead, while their guns were carted away at about 10pm on Thursday.

Resident sources said the officers were killed at Yelewata, in Guma LGA, a border town between Benue and Nasarawa states.

The three other victims were killed at Jootar in Ukum LGA, a border community between Benue and Taraba states.

They were said to be unwinding at a relaxation centre in Jootar, when the gunmen who rode on motorcycle shot at them at about 7pm on Thursday.

Their identities include, Fred Akaayar, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the Federal University, Wukari in Taraba State; Aondo Ayange Apever and Shiaondo Kachina.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the Guma police killings, said she was yet to receive details of the incident.

“I received information about two policemen killed in an operation, but I am yet to receive details please”, she said.
