SAN FRANCISCO, July 23, (THEWILL) – Unidentified gunmen Thursday kidnapped Chief C.A.O. Otobotekere, paramount ruler of Tombia Community in Tenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

The gunmen, who arrived the Monarch’s palace on Thursday morning, fired several shots to scare away people around the area.

Mr. Asinim Butswat, Police Public Relations Officer for Bayelsa Command, who confirmed the incident, said the police were making efforts to apprehend the kidnappers.

“On July 23, five unknown heavily armed gunmen, went to the residence of His Royal Highness, Chief C.A.O. Otobotekere, in Gbarain Clan of Tombia Community and abducted the chief,” he said.

He explained that the gunmen, who took him away in a car, drove to the Amassoma/Tombia Bridge, where they took the victim away in a speedboat and burnt the car.

Butswat said that in the process of shooting by the abductors, a stray bullet hit and injured a food vendor.

He said that the Marine Police, JTF, and the Anti-kidnapping unit, have moved into the creeks to rescue the monarch and arrest of the suspects.
