June 13, (THEWILL) – West Ham United have bolstered their attacking ranks with the marquee signing of Brazilian wonderkid, Luis Guilherme, from Palmeiras.
The 18-year-old winger has penned a five-year deal with the Hammers, concluding a protracted transfer saga.
The East London club has agreed to pay Palmeiras a package worth £29.5 million for Guilherme’s services, fending off interest from several top European clubs. The hefty fee underscores the immense potential West Ham see in the young Brazilian.
Guilherme’s arrival at the London Stadium comes after he reportedly rebuffed a lucrative offer from intermediaries claiming to represent Saudi Arabian clubs. The teenager ultimately opted for a move to the English Premier League, attracted by West Ham’s project and the opportunity to develop under the tutelage of manager Julen Lopetegui.
“I’m very happy to be signing with West Ham United, a club that trusted in my work,” Guilherme stated. “The Premier League is the best in the world. I believe I’ll improve a lot here with the entire staff at West Ham, which is crucial for my development.”
Technical Director Tim Steidten played an instrumental role in getting Guilherme’s signature, travelling to Brazil to discuss the transfer with the player and his family. The Hammers’ commitment and long-term vision convinced Guilherme to join their ranks.
