January 15, (THEWILL) – Pep Guardiola, manager of English Premier League club Manchester City, has been awarded the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Coach Award after leading his team to a historic domestic and European treble last season.
The 2022/2023 campaign saw City capture the EPL title, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League under Guardiola’s leadership. The squad, featuring world-class talents like Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, went through all teams on their part to win all three competitions in a single season for the first time in Curry’s history.
Guardiola saw off competition from Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi and Italy manager Luciano Spalletti to claim the coaching honour. This is the Catalan tactician’s first Best Coach award, having finished second in 2019 and third in both 2021 and 2022.
The achievement cements Guardiola’s status as one of the greatest managers in football history. He became the first coach to win two European trebles, after winning it all with Barcelona back in 2009.
After a below-par start this term, his City team are safely through in the UCL and only two points off English Premier League leaders Liverpool as they look to continue their dominance in Europe and at home.
