August 09, (THEWILL) – Greek tennis player, Stefanos Tsitsipas, has ended his coaching partnership with his father, Apostolos. The former world number three made the announcement on Friday, stating that he prefers to maintain a father-son relationship with Apostolos instead.
The decision comes after a public disagreement between the pair during Tsitsipas’s second-round defeat to Kei Nishikori at the Canadian Open. The 25-year-old expressed disappointment with his father’s coaching style following the match.
Despite the end of their coaching collaboration, Tsitsipas confirmed that Apostolos will continue to travel with him and provide support in other areas. The 2023 Australian Open and 2021 French Open finalists have not yet named a replacement coach.
Tsitsipas reached the quarter-finals of the recent Paris Olympics, where he lost to eventual gold medallist Novak Djokovic.
