July 24, (THEWILL) – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has urged the people of Kano State to exercise patience as the state government is working hard to revive the education sector.

“We are very serious in tackling the decay in the state’s education sector; we mean business and we remain focused in our efforts to solve the problem.

“Our priority is education, our second priority is education and our third priority is also education, before any other sector”, Yusuf said.

The Governor made these remarks on Wednesday, when he paid an unscheduled visit to the New Girls Science and Technical College, Kofar Nasarawa, Kano.

He said his administration had embarked on many programmes under the recently-declared State of Emergency on Education, to address the decay in the sector.

Such initiatives, he said, include the construction, rehabilitation and renovation of classrooms, provision of furniture, teaching materials, and employment of new teachers.

He said his administration is vigorously implementing the State of Emergency on Education to revamp the education sector for the progress and development of the state.

Yusuf then expressed disappointment at what he saw at the school formerly known as the Governor’s College.

“I am sad and disappointed at the decay I saw in this school; no teaching materials; no furniture and virtually no teachers”, he said.

He lamented that the Rabi’u Kwankwaso administration under which he served, left the school fully equipped and well staffed, but that the succeeding administration neglected it and left it dilapidated.

The Governor assured the staff and students of the college that the State Government would provide the needed staff, teaching materials, furniture and other facilities to restore its capacity to impart quality education.
