July 16, (THEWILL) – Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed into law a bill creating three second-class Emirates in the state.

The new second-class Emirates are Gaya, Rano and Karaye.

This followed the passing of the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 by the Kano State House of Assembly, creating the three new second-class Emirates.

According to the law, the newly-established Rano Emirate will comprise Rano, Bunkure, and Kibiya local government areas, while Gaya Emirate will include Gaya, Albasu, and Ajingi local government areas, and Karaye Emirate will consist of Karaye and Rogo local government areas.

Speaking after signing the bill into law at the Government House on Tuesday, Yusuf said: “The State House of Assembly has discharged yet another constitutional duty by passing the new law to pave the way for the creation of three second-class Emirates in the state.

“The creation of these Emirates would indeed revive the cultural heritage and development in their areas and by extension, in the state. The government believes in the major role of traditional institutions in fostering peace and development.”

He commended the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Isma’il Falgore, for responding to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

The Governor equally tasked the Emirates to foster peace and development in their respective domains.

He said the government would soon announce the names of the Emirs appointed for the newly-created second-class Emirates.
