June 29, (THEWILL) – The newly appointed Director General of the Benue State Planning Commission, Prof. Jerome Andohol, has charged the management and staff of the Commission to redouble their efforts toward realising the full mandate of the Commission.
The DG, who gave the charge at the Commission’s Headquarters in Makurdi, on the assumption of duty, disclosed that the Governor, Revd Fr Hycinth Alia, is very eager for the State’s development and the Commission will be on hand to effect the policy.
“The Planning Commission is a vital component that coordinates activities of donor partners and other international organisations. Therefore, all the staff must give their maximum cooperation for the Alia administration to succeed in office,” he stated.
Professor Andohol, who advised the staff not to wait until they will be assigned duty, charged them to be creative with new ideas, assuring them that there will be a reward for their hard work and dedication.
In his remark, former Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Benue State University, Prof. Philip Abaci, described the Director General as an asset to the Department of Economics at the University, adding that he will impact positively on his new assignment.
According to him, six persons from the department have been elected into the National Assembly while Professor Andohol has been appointed as Director General of the Planning Commission, and Mr Emmanuel Agema as the Acting Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS). He charged Prof. Andohol to work hard to justify the purpose for which he was appointed by Governor Alia.
Other staff of the Commission, including Mr Tersoo Ayoosu, who spoke at the ceremony, assured of their unalloyed support to ensure the goals of the Commission are achieved.
Earlier, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Dr Nyam, who said the Commission has six departments, assured of the staff’s dedication to duty and cooperation.
The Permanent Secretary later led management staff and conducted the Director General round the offices and gave him the handover note he received from the immediate past Director General, Dr Sam Unom.
The Parish Priest of Catholic Youth Center Church, Makurdi, Revd Fr Shima Ukpanya, sprinkled holy water in the office and charged Professor Andohol to be prayerful in the course of duty to succeed in his assignment.
