August 17, (THEWILL) – Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed security agencies in the state to intensify efforts and ensure the quick and safe release of medical doctors that were abducted in the state.
He condemns in strong terms, the abduction of the student Doctors who are from University of Maiduguri and University of Jos.
The students were ambushed and taken away by gunmen along Otukpo-Enugu highway, while on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) Annual Convention in Enugu State, Thursday evening.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi on Saturday, the governor warned criminal elements operating within the state to find another base.
The statement added that Alia’s administration will not rest on its oars to stamp out all forms of criminality in the state.
THEWILL recalls that about twenty medical student doctors were held hostage by yet to be known gunmen on Thursday, within the Benue South axis of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Benue state Command, SP Sewuese Anene, who confirmed the incident, added that efforts were on by men of the Command to rescue the victims and solicited information to that effect.
