October 07, (THEWILL) – Governor Hyacinth Alia has sworn in the 23 elected council chairmen in Benue State, with the charge on them to improve security and internally generated revenue for the good of the people in their respective councils.

Performing the ceremony at Government House, Makurdi, on Monday, the governor also tasked them to use the financial autonomy granted them to be prudent and accountable for people to have confidence in the third tier of government.

He said as elected representatives, they should not see themselves as sole administrators but carry all stakeholders along in the course of duty for development to thrive.

While pledging not to interfere with the running of affairs of councils, Governor Alia called for working synergy with the State and Federal Government in order to achieve maximum development.

THEWILL recalled that the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), in the October 5th Council Polls, declared all the 23 Council Chairmen and 267 Councillorship on the platform of the All Progressives Congress as winners.

Chairman of the Commission, Barr Richard Tombuwua, while declaring the results, stated that the exercise was hitch-free.
