September 08, (THEWILL) – Remo Stars claimed a 2-0 victory against Abia Warriors during their NPFL season opener at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Saturday. The away team performed impressively, with goals from Sodiq Ismail and Babajide Fatokun sealing the win.
Despite playing in front of their home crowd, Abia Warriors struggled to find the consistency they needed to make a difference. The large home support was eager to witness a victory, but Remo Stars’ disciplined performance made it difficult for Abia Warriors to gain any momentum throughout the match.
Sodiq opened the scoring for Remo Stars, giving the visitors a much-needed lead in the 49th minute. Just 11 minutes later, Babajide Fatokun doubled their advantage with the last goal of the fixture, ensuring that Remo Stars left Umuahia with all three points.
Abia Warriors made attempts to come back into the game, but they failed to capitalise on their opportunities. Remo Stars’ defence remained solid, frustrating the home side’s efforts. This result leaves Abia Warriors with much to work on in the coming weeks.
With this victory, Remo Stars made a strong start to their 2024 NPFL campaign, while Abia Warriors face the challenge of regrouping ahead of their next match.
