September 18, (THEWILL) – Coco Gauff, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, is making a coaching change as the 2024 WTA season nears its end. Brad Gilbert, who joined Gauff’s team in mid-2023, announced the end of their professional relationship via social media platform X.
Gilbert’s arrival had initially brought success to Gauff’s career, with victories at the DC Open and Cincinnati Open, followed by her first Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open. The 20-year-old American, also reached the semi-finals of several major tournaments in early 2024, including the Australian Open and French Open.
However, Gauff’s performance declined in the latter half of 2024. She experienced early exits at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, as well as disappointing results at the Summer Olympics and other tournaments. After her Wimbledon defeat, Gauff mentioned difficulties with game plans and seeking more direction from her coaching team.
The timing of this coaching change suggests Gauff is already focusing on the 2025 season. With the China Open and WTA Finals still ahead in 2024, Gauff has opportunities to end the year strongly before embarking on a new chapter in her career.
Gilbert, known for his work with tennis legends Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, expressed gratitude for his time with Gauff and wished her continued success in her future endeavours.
