July 21, (THEWILL) – Brentford manager Thomas Frank has provided an update on the future of striker Ivan Toney amidst transfer speculation. Frank stated that any club interested in signing Toney would need to pay an “expensive” price for the England international.
Toney, who impressed at Euro 2024 as part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad, has attracted interest from several English Premier League clubs. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea have all reportedly shown interest in the forward, who is said to be keen on joining a title-contending team for the upcoming season.
Frank expressed his desire to retain Toney at Brentford, telling Sky Sports: “He is a Brentford player and I would love him to stay. That would give me a very positive challenge.” The Danish manager acknowledged the value of having a prolific goalscorer like Toney in the team.
Toney has one year remaining on his current contract with Brentford. He made 17 appearances for the club during the 2023/2024 season after serving a lengthy ban. The 28-year-old striker then went on to make a significant impact for England at Euro 2024, helping the team reach the final of the tournament.
While Frank remains hopeful of keeping Toney, he also recognises the player’s ambitions. The Brentford boss concluded: “I would be more than happy if he stayed with us. He is a goalscorer and that is very good to have in your team so if you want to buy him, it is expensive.”
