August 07, (THEWILL) – English Premier League clubs, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal, are on the brink of finalising a deal that will see American goalkeeper, Matt Turner, join the Forest ranks.
Turner, who has been serving as a backup to Aaron Ramsdale, has opted for a fresh start as Mikel Arteta seeks to add David Raya to Arsenal’s roster. The 29-year-old shot-stopper is scheduled for a medical assessment later today, following his standout performances as the USA’s primary goalkeeper during the recent Gold Cup campaign.
The impending arrival of Turner is not expected to impact Nottingham Forest’s ongoing pursuit of Manchester United’s Dean Henderson. Forest’s manager, Steve Cooper, remains eager to welcome Henderson back to the City Ground. Notably, Forest enjoyed the services of Henderson and Paris St-Germain goalkeeper, Keylor Navas, on loan during the 2022-23 season, but both players have since returned to their parent clubs.
This summer, Cooper has further fortified his squad with permanent additions, including New Zealander, Chris Wood, Nigerian international, Ola Aina, and Anthony Elanga of Sweden, as the club positions itself for a competitive season ahead. Their opening game of the new season will be a lunch kickoff against Arsenal at the Emirates.
Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi was instrumental in Forest’s victory over the Gunners in the previous season, which inadvertently handed the League to Manchester City, much to the disappointment of Arsenal fans present at the City Ground in Nottingham. He will be available as Mikel Arteta’s squad, riding high on their Community Shield triumph, prepare to host them for the Emirates’ season opener.
