March 18, (THEWILL)- The motorcycle section of the Sokoto Central Market has been gutted by fire.
While THEWILL cannot immediately confirm the cause of the inferno, an eyewitness said it may have originated from a solid waste dumping site close to the motorcycle market.
The fire, which started early Monday morning, has caused significant damage.

Chairman of the Motorcycles Marketers Association, Shehu Muhammad, said they are unable to estimate the number of motorcycles destroyed by the fire.
“We cannot quantify the number of motorcycles burnt down by the fire now because the fire is still raging. But many people lost their shops along with their motorcycles because they could not come in time as the fire started around 6am this morning.
“But the men of the federal and state fire service are currently battling, but I know it will take some time before they can quench it all,” he said.
He appealed to the State Government to come to the aid of those who lost their property during the inferno.
