March 23, (THEWILL) – Many shops have been razed in a fire outbreak at Apongbon market, under the Apongbon section of the Eko Bridge in Lagos.
The fire incident caused gridlock and crippled commercial activities around the Lagos Island area of the state.
Though the cause of the fire incident could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, it was learnt that goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.
“Traffic from Eko bridge has been re-routed to Ebute-Ero to link the inner marina. Men of the fire service and other security agencies are still on the ground. Therefore, CMS bridge and Eko bridge inward/outward Apongbon is closed to traffic at the moment”, Lagos State Traffic Management Agency tweeted.
According to a source, the incident happened around 7am on Wednesday. Fortunately, no loss of life in the incident.
It was gathered that men of the Lagos Fire and Rescue Team were on ground to put out the raging fire.
The bridge has been badly affected due to the intense impact of the inferno.
