July 03, (THEWILL) – Finidi George has been appointed as the new head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League club, Rivers United. The former Super Eagles manager has signed a two-year contract with the Port Harcourt-based team, marking a significant return to his hometown.
George’s appointment comes shortly after his resignation from the Nigerian national team following disappointing results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His primary objective at Rivers United will be to book a continental ticket for the club next season, a challenge he has embraced with enthusiasm.
The former Ajax winger expressed his excitement about returning to Port Harcourt, where he began his football career with Sharks FC.
