June 26, (THEWILL) – FIFA, the international governing body for football, officially announced on Monday, that the 2023 Club World Cup will be held in the vibrant city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The decision to select Jeddah as the host city was made after a thorough evaluation of the ongoing preparations for the tournament by a FIFA delegation during their visit last week. Yasser Al Misehal, President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), was pleased with the announcement: “We are delighted that Jeddah, with its state-of-the-art facilities and reputation for hosting major international sports events, has been selected as host city for the FIFA Club World Cup.”
Scheduled to take place from the 12th to the 22nd of December, the 2023 edition of the Club World Cup will mark a significant milestone as it will be the first time that Saudi Arabia hosts this prestigious tournament. This decision was initially announced back in February.
It is worth noting that the 2023 edition will also be the final year for the current format, which features seven participating teams. Starting from 2025, the competition is set to undergo expansion and transition into a 32-team event to be held in the United States with Enyimba International, Nigeria’s representative to the next CAF Champions League, eligible to participate if they can win the continental competition again.
With Jeddah’s modern infrastructure and previous success in organising major international sports events, the stage is set for an exciting and memorable Club World Cup in 2023. Club football enthusiasts around the world can look forward to witnessing top-notch competition and the crowning of the world’s best club team in the captivating setting of Saudi Arabia’s vibrant city.
