June 26, (THEWILL) – Fenway Sports Group, the owners of the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club, announced on Monday, that they have expanded their portfolio by adding a team in the tech-forward team golf league, TGL, developed by Tiger Woods.
This new team joins the Los Angeles Golf Club, which was previously revealed as the league’s first team and is owned by Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, tennis legends, Serena and Venus Williams. The TGL, set to commence play in January, at a state-of-the-art arena in Palm Beach, Florida, will consist of a total of six teams.
Fenway Sports Group’s principal owner, John Henry, and chairman, Tom Werner, were genuinely excited about this new venture, noting that it provides New England sports fans with the opportunity to cheer for world-class PGA Tour players and redefine the game in the modern era.
Each team in the TGL will comprise three players, including some of the biggest names in the PGA Tour. Prominent players who have already committed to the project include Tiger Woods, who boasts 15 major titles, Jon Rahm, the reigning Masters champion, and Rory McIlroy, a four-time major winner. The league aims to combine technology and live action to create an innovative and captivating primetime golf experience.
