July 23, (THEWILL) – The Federal High Court 2 sitting in Benin City, the Edo State capital, has struck out an application for an interlocutory injunction seeking to restrain the Kelly Ogbaloi-led State Working Committee (SWC) of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State.
Justice Chuka Obiozor struck out the application on Monday, July 22, following a suit filed by Hon. Elizabeth Ativie.
Amid the leadership tussle in the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party, Ativie had, through an originating summons, approached the court, seeking to initially restrain Ogbaloi as the Chairman of the party in the State, pending the court’s decision on the substantive suit.
Meanwhile, Justice Obiozor has adjourned until September 23, to deliver judgement on the leadership crisis rocking the party in Edo State. This is exactly two days after the Edo State gubernatorial election.
The court reserves the case for judgement after taking arguments from Legal representatives for both Ativie and Ogbaloi.
The dispute, which has been a source of controversy within the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party, has drawn significant attention from party members and political observers alike.
