July 15, (THEWILL) – As part of plans by the Federal Government to ensure unhindered implementation of a new national minimum wage, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has mandated the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, to come up with an amendment bill to the 2024 Budget to be presented to the National Assembly for consideration
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, said President Tinubu will present the proposed amendment bill to the National Assembly after he meets with leaders of the organised Labour on Thursday.
The President met with the leadership of organised labour last Thursday following a lack of consensus by the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage.
THEWILL earlier reported that the government team and the organised private sector had offered N62,000, but the organised labour made a demand of N250,000.
The Minister said the President was not opposed to raising the national minimum wage but was cautious not to plunge the country into unthinkable inflation.
