Faes Nets Two Own-Goals To Gift Liverpool 2-1 Victory Over Leicester

December 31, (THEWILL) – Liverpool secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Friday, thanks to two own-goals from Wout Faes.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gave Leicester the lead in the fourth minute, sneaking through the Liverpool defence and beating Alisson with a left-footed shot. However, Faes gifted Liverpool an equaliser when he sliced a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold into his own net.

The defender’s woes continued just before halftime when he inadvertently scored again, this time after Darwin Nunez’s shot hit the post and rebounded onto his path.

Despite chances for both teams in the second half, the score remained 2-1 until the final whistle, giving Liverpool their fourth consecutive Premier League win. The victory moves them just two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Faes became the fourth player with two own goals in a single Premier League game, after Jamie Carragher (1999), Michael Proctor (2003) and Jonathan Walters (2013). On Monday, Liverpool will play their first game of 2023 away at Brentford, while on Tuesday, Leicester will host Fulham.
