August 01, (THEWILL) – Brazilian midfielder Fabinho’s departure from Liverpool has been confirmed, marking the end of his successful five-season stint at Anfield.

During his time under manager Jurgen Klopp, Fabinho played a crucial role in the team’s memorable triumphs in the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League. Although there were initial concerns regarding the payment structure, the transfer to Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad was finalised, and the player successfully completed his medicals.

Liverpool issued a statement that read: “Everyone at Liverpool FC would like to thank Fabinho for all of his contributions to the club’s successes during the last five years.” Fabinho’s move makes him the second Liverpool midfielder to move to the Saudi Pro League, following Jordan Henderson’s move to Al Ettifaq.

The seasoned midfielder’s departure from Liverpool comes amidst a series of strategic moves by the club during the summer transfer window. Al Ittihad, managed by Nuno Espirito Santo, has been assembling a formidable squad, with Fabinho joining star recruits Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Jota. At Liverpool, Fabinho made a total of 219 appearances and scored 11 goals since his arrival from Monaco in 2018. He was also there as the Reds lifted both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during the 2021/2022 campaign.

Liverpool have taken proactive measures to strengthen its central areas, signing Alex Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and Hove Albion and RB Leipzig, respectively. Simultaneously, experienced squad members James Milner, Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have departed, aiming to pave the way for renewed success in the upcoming season.
