July 24, (THEWILL) – Formula One has decided to keep its existing points system, rejecting proposals to award points beyond the top 10 finishers. The decision was made unanimously by the Formula One commission during a meeting in London on Tuesday.

The commission, which includes all teams and key stakeholders, had previously deferred the decision in April. The meeting also agreed to increase the minimum weights for car and driver by 2kg to promote driver well-being.

In the current 2024 season, after 13 out of 24 races, all teams except Sauber have scored points. The top four teams have established a significant lead, while Aston Martin, RB, and Haas form a second group in fifth to seventh positions.

The meeting also finalised plans for pre-season testing in 2026, which will feature nine test days spread across three events. This decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to refine and improve the sport’s regulations.

The Formula One commission is chaired by Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali and FIA single-seater director Nikolas Tombazis.
