Extradition Hearing: Ex-MINT Boss Returns To Court Wednesday

SAN FRANCISCO, October 21, (THEWILL) – The extradition process initiated against Ehidiamhen Okoyomon, former managing director and chief executive officer, Nigeria Security, Minting and Printing Company, NSMPC, by the office of Attorney General of the Federation is to continue before Justice E.S Chukwu of the Federal High Court on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Okoyomon is allegedly wanted in the United Kingdom over his alleged role in the bribery scandal involving officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the NSMPC and Securency International Pty of Australia.

The matter which first came up on Monday, October 13, 2014 had to be adjourned to Thursday, October 16, 2014 for hearing on the preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter raised by Okoyomon through his counsel, Alex Iziyon, SAN.

According to Iziyon, there exists no extradition treaty between Nigeria and United Kingdom.

However, M.S Hassan, who represented the AGF, told the court he had not been served with the processes and asked for a short adjournment to enable him respond.

Upon the adjournment granted by the court and its order for the accused person to be kept in EFCC custody, Iziyon, through a formal application sought the bail of his client which the prosecution also pleaded for time to respond to.

The matter has been fixed for Wednesday, October 22, 2014 for argument on the preliminary objection and hearing on the bail application.
