July 18, (THEWILL) – Jonny Evans has signed a short-term deal with Manchester United, enabling his participation in the club’s upcoming pre-season games in Edinburgh and San Diego.

Evans, a former Old Trafford Academy graduate, who recently departed Leicester City, had been training with the Under-21s while considering his options. Impressing both Erik ten Hag and the coaching staff during first-team sessions, the Northern Ireland international will join the group travelling to Edinburgh to face Lyon on Wednesday, before rejoining the Academy for the San Diego tour.

Evans, who amassed 102 caps for Northern Ireland, brings a wealth of experience to United’s pre-season preparations. Having played 198 games for the club before his departure in 2015, the accomplished centre-back was part of several triumphant campaigns, including winning the UEFA Champions League, the Club World Cup, three English Premier League titles, and two League Cups. His return to the Red Devils signifies his continued dedication to the sport and his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success once again.

Unfortunately, fellow defenders, Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett, have sustained injuries, ruling them out of the Lyon game and the Tour 2023 in the United States. However, Evans’ arrival bolsters the team’s defensive options and adds stability to the squad, as they embark on their pre-season preparations.

In anticipation of the upcoming matches, the remaining players will undergo rigorous training at Carrington before their journey to New York. With Evans’ return and the collective effort of the entire squad, Man Utd aim to build on their previous successes and strive for further glory in domestic and international competitions.
