EPL New Boys Ipswich Spend Club Record To Get Chelsea’s Hutchinson

July 01, (THEWILL) – Ipswich Town have completed the permanent signing of Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea for a club-record fee. The newly promoted English Premier League side announced on Sunday that the 20-year-old forward has penned a five-year contract at Portman Road.

Although the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, British media reports suggest the deal is worth approximately £20 million. Hutchinson’s arrival marks a significant statement of intent from Ipswich as they prepare for their first top-flight campaign in 22 years.

The young winger spent the 2023/2024 season on loan at Ipswich, playing a crucial role in their promotion from the Championship. Hutchinson contributed 10 league goals as the Tractor Boys earned a second-place finish and automatic promotion to the EPL.

Ipswich manager, Kieran McKenna, expressed his delight at securing Hutchinson’s services permanently. “Omari is someone we all enjoyed working with last season,” McKenna told the club’s official website. “The staff, his teammates and supporters all saw how he grew and developed over the course of the year.”

The acquisition of Hutchinson represents a major coup for Ipswich as they look to establish themselves in the EPL. The club’s willingness to break their transfer record demonstrates their ambition to compete at the highest level following their long-awaited return to the top flight.
