SAN FRANCISCO, October 19, (THEWILL) – In one of the two fixtures that featured in this week’s Monday night football in the English Premier League was a home tie for West Bromwich Albion against Burnley.
It’s finished goalless in a game that actually could have gone either way but for some razor-edge reflexes and excellent saves in the second-half by both goalkeepers, Sam Johnstone for the hosts and Nick Pope for the visitors.
In the opening 45 minutes, Ashley Barnes went close for Burnley before West Brom debutant English forward Karlan Grant had his goal correctly ruled out for offside.
Both sides continued to press after the break with the Serbian Branislav Ivanovic going closest for the hosts after Pope produced a fantastic double-save to deny Grady Diangana and then the Brazilian central attacking midfielder Matheus Pereira.
Burnley’s Chris Wood had a glaring opportunity to open the scoring in the 63rd minute but saw his header kept out only by the crossbar. Then, Johnstone produced a stunning save to deny Barnes with Wood hitting the bar again on the rebound.
Nothing else could be done to break the stalemate when the final whistle was blown after four minutes of extra time.
The result leaves Burnley with a single point after four games while West Brom have 2 points but have played a game more than Burnley. Burnley’s next match is another Monday night game against Spurs on October 26.

THEWILL does not fancy Burnley’s chances against a seething and fiery Spurs smarting from throwing away a three goal advantage in their last match against West Ham.
For West Brom, another Monday night football against Brighton & Hove Albion on the same day as the Burnley vs Tottenham game awaits.
