SAN FRANCISCO, October 19, (THEWILL) – In the second of two fixtures that featured in this week’s Monday night football in the English Premier League was a home tie for Leeds at their Elland Road grounds against visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves won the game by a lone goal via a 70th-minute Raul Jimenez’s strike.
Although the hosts dominated the first half, they they had a difficult time trying to get past Rui Patricio, in goal for Wolves, with their two attempts on target.
Whatever Nuno Espirito Santo told his charges during the interval made a difference. Wolves were much improved in the second half and claimed maximum points when Jimenez’s edge-of-the-box shot took a heavy deflection off English central defensive midfielder, Kalvin Phillips and beat Leeds French goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
THEWILL saw a Wolves team that was resolute to the final whistle, making sure to preserve their lead and take all three points on offer. They dealt decisively with everything Leeds threw at them.
From the play of the second 45, it was obvious to THEWILL that the hosts lacked the cutting edge that saw them win the Championship last season and take this season’s Premier League by storm. The second half for Leeds was perhaps best summed up by their zero shots on target.

A third win of the season for Wolves lifts them up to sixth in the Premier League, two points and four places better off than Leeds. Next up for Nuno’s side is a home match with Newcastle United on Sunday, while Leeds head to in-form Aston Villa on Friday.
