English FA Charge Toney For Betting Misconduct

November 16, (THEWILL) – Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct for allegedly breaking betting regulations, the English Football Association has revealed.

Recent weeks saw the release of information revealing the Brentford striker was the focus of an ongoing inquiry into these violations. In England, professional football players are not permitted to bet on games.

The FA issued the following statement on Wednesday: “Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules. It is alleged that the Brentford FC forward breached FA Rule E8 232 times between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. Ivan Toney has until Thursday, 24 November, 2022, to provide a response.”

In response, Brentford also issued a statement that read: “The Club has been in discussion with Ivan and his legal representatives about this matter and those conversations will continue privately. We will make no further comment until the matter has been completed.”

Gareth Southgate’s stunning omission of Toney from the England World Cup roster has made headlines. The 26-year-old has not yet played for the Three Lions at any level.
