English Clubs Top Recipients As FIFA Announces Record $209m Payment For World Cup Players

July 13, (THEWILL) – FIFA has announced that it will be paying out a record-breaking $209 million to clubs whose players participated in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The payment will be made to 440 clubs from 51 different countries. Each of the 837 footballers who took part in the tournament will receive a daily amount of $10,950, regardless of their playing time. This represents an increase from the $8,530 paid per player at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The funds will be distributed among the clubs where the players were registered in the two years leading up to the World Cup. English clubs will be the largest recipients, with a total of 46 clubs set to receive a combined sum of $37,713,297. This is followed by clubs from Spain, Germany, Italy, and France. Among individual clubs, Manchester City will receive the highest payment of $4,596,445, followed closely by Barcelona with $4,538,955 and Bayern Munich with $4,331,809.

This financial support from FIFA is seen as a significant boost for the clubs, allowing them to invest in player development, facilities, and other aspects of their operations. In addition to the current payout, FIFA and the European Club Association have signed an agreement to distribute $355 million to clubs for the 2026 and 2030 editions of the World Cup. This long-term commitment aims to ensure sustained financial assistance to clubs for their participation in future tournaments.

The agreement reflects FIFA’s recognition of the important role that clubs play in the development and success of international football.
