BEVERLY HILLS, October 10, (THEWILL) – As the ongoing nationwide protest targeted against the extra-judicial activities and extortion by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) continues to gain ground, some foreign celebrities have expressed their views as protesters sustained street protests across Nigeria demanding the disbandment of the notorious police unit.

The #EndSARS hashtag on Friday dominated not only the Nigerian media space but the UK and the US as well.

THEWILL had earlier reported that popular American rapper, Cardi B, had promised to research on the matter when she was told of the issue.

Apart from Cardi B, US singer, Songz, has also expressed his concern over the “hurtful” situation in the country.

“After doing a little research I would like to speak out against what’s going on in Nigeria right now. Their pleas to #EndSarsNow IS VERY REAL. I have so much love for my Nigerian fans and it’s so hurtful to hear whats happening,” he wrote.

“Police brutality here in America often is an abuse of power driven by race. To be brutalized, extorted and murdered by your own people is unimaginable. Prayers up and I’m researching ways I can help. #EndSARS.”

Also, popular British-Nigerian actor, John Boyega, wrote: “The youth in Nigeria deserve good leadership and guidance. This situation is tied to many other issues. Please lend your attention to this pressing problem! #EndSARSImmediately #EndSarsProtests #EndSARS #EndSARSProtest.

“Three years ago Nigeria’s police chief re-organised SARS after public condemnation about the violence that came with their operations. That change has done nothing for Nigerians and today many are still in danger. #EndSarsProtests

“We can’t simply enjoy Banana island every December without noticing the concrete wall placed between Nigerians and their potential. The limitations become unbearable for them and this needs serious attention. #EndSARSProtest.”

THEWILL recalls that the renewed call for the scrapping of the police unit started last Saturday after a video went viral of a man allegedly shot by operatives of the police unit in Delta State. The media however later confirmed that the man was not shot during his engagement with the police. His injuries occurred from a fall from his vehicle while he was being taken into custody.
