June 09, (THEWILL) – In a thrilling international friendly match held at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas on Saturday, Brazil earned a narrow 3-2 victory over Mexico. The match served as a preparation for both teams ahead of the 2024 Copa America.
Young Brazilian sensation, 17-year-old Endrick, who is set to join Real Madrid this summer, scored the winning goal in the 96th minute with a header off a cross from his future club teammate Vinícius Júnior. It was Endrick’s third goal for the Brazilian national team, having previously scored against England and Spain in March.
Brazil took an early lead through Fulham’s Andreas Pereira in the 5th minute, and Gabriel Martinelli doubled their advantage in the 54th minute. However, Mexico fought back with goals from Julián Quiñones and Guillermo Martínez, levelling the score at 2-2 in the 92nd minute.
Despite the late equaliser, Brazil’s resilience shone through as Endrick’s last-gasp winner sealed the victory for the South American giants. The match was briefly interrupted in the 59th minute due to an anti-gay chant from the majority-Mexico crowd, a recurring issue at Mexico’s matches.
Both teams will now prepare for the upcoming Copa America, with Brazil placed in Group D alongside Costa Rica, Paraguay, and Colombia, while Mexico will face Ecuador, Venezuela, and Jamaica in Group B.
