Emirship: Bichi Emirate Asks Kano Govt To Reverse New Law

May 29, (THEWILL)- As the crisis trailing the abolition of the five new emirates in Kano State escalates, the Bichi Emirate Development Association (Inuwar Jama’ar Masarautar Bichi) has asked the State Government to urgently reverse the decision.

The association, which made the request at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday, said the state’s executive and the legislature should repeal the law scrapping the new Emirates and restore the Emirs to their positions.

Other emirates abolished alongside Bichi are Karaye, Rano, Gaya and the new Kano Emirate headed by deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero.

“They should repeal the law and restore our Emirs and Emirates as such law is both retrogressive and anti-people.

“We are not begging them; we are asking them to do the needful so as to restore our areas to the path of development,” the association said.

The group, which spoke through its Secretary, Engr. Bello Gambo, said the five emirates were created by the immediate past administration of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje in order to spread development to the grassroots.

“We in Bichi have witnessed growth and development since the Bichi Emirate was created, especially in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture, road construction and employment,” Gambo said.

He disclosed that over 3,000 indigenes of the area had gained employment in various sectors of the economy since the creation of the new Emirate.

He dismissed the idea of the creation of second-class emirs reportedly being touted by a member of the State House of Assembly, describing it as “unacceptable.”

“We cannot be ruled by a first-class emir before and now to be ruled by a second-class emir. We reject this move, just as we vehemently oppose the move to return us to a district to be ruled by a district head again,” he added.
