November 18, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has dismissed claims made by Total Promotions Ltd regarding television broadcast rights of the league.
In a statement, NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said the company’s recent letter sent to broadcast partner, StarTimes, was baseless and intended to undermine the league’s progress.
Elegbeleye stated that Total Promotions is unknown to the NPFL Board and has no legitimate claim over broadcast rights. He revealed a similar letter was sent to state broadcaster, NTA, last season when the NPFL arranged weekly matches on the network. According to Elegbeleye, the NPFL inherited no assets or liabilities when formed and Total Promotions has never had dealings with the League.
The Chairman questioned where Total Promotions had been previously as the NPFL went off air before the current Board took over. He added that threats to partners would be ignored as live streaming and broadcast arrangements continue unaffected. Elegbeleye assured stakeholders that relationships remain strong and urged ignoring this latest attempt by past corrupt elements to disrupt the league.
In July, the NPFL signed a streaming deal with Propel Sports Africa and in November, a five-year satellite broadcast deal with StarTimes. Elegbeleye stated both deals received acclaim for restoring league coverage across platforms. The NPFL Board has been praised for its success in getting matches back on television for fans.
