Edo Government Deposes Uromi Monarch, Anslem Aidenojie

BEVERLY HILLS, November 09, (THEWILL) – The Edo State Government under the leadership of outgoing governor Adams Oshiomhole Wednesday deposed Anselm Aidenojie as the Ojuromi of Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, the hometown of Chief Tony Anenih, a prominent national chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

The dethronement of the previously suspended traditional ruler was announced via a statement dated November 9, 2016, by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, few days after he filed a suit challenging his suspension from office for one year.

Aidonojie had earlier been given a seven-day suspension by the state government for allegedly assaulting one Ms. Betty Okoebor, during the September 28 governorship election, sequel to his refusal to respond to a government query and his travel abroad without approval by government.

The government increased the sanction on Aidonojie by slamming a one-year suspension on him because he did not show remorse for his action, the SSG said.

Part of the deposition statement said: “Deposition from office as Ojuromi of Uromi: Addendum.

“Please, be informed that the initial Exco decision of October 26, 2016, has been further affirmed.

“Consequently, you have been deposed as the Ojuromi of Uromi, pursuant to Section 28 (1 and II) of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law, 1979.”
