Ebonyi State Govt Tasks Security Agents On Personnel’s Death

February 04, (THEWILL) – The Ebonyi State government has directed security agencies in the state to redouble their efforts, to bring to book the perpetrators of the killers of a security personnel in the boundary between Uburu in Ebonyi State and Mpu in Enugu State.

Barr Orji Uchenna Orji, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ebonyi State, stated this while briefing journalists after the Ebonyi State Executive Council meeting held at the Exco Chambers, Centenary City, New Government House, Abakaliki.

Orji, who noted that under security matters,Exco condemned the killing of the security personnel, also charged stakeholders to close ranks with security agencies on renewed hostilities in Abaomege/Isinkwo Ukawu communities over their disputed land.

He said, “A security report was received on the killing of one security personnel on duty in the boundary between Uburu in Ebonyi State and Mpu in Enugu State by yet to be identified gun men and EXCO condemned the attack and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Council noted the renewed hostilities in Abaomege/Isinkwo Ukawu communities, over their disputed land and directed stakeholders from the area to work closely with the Security agencies, with a view to identifying those responsible for the renewed attack despite the resolutions made on the disputed land by the State government”, he said.

According to the commissioner, considered and approved the construction of the following roads:

“Oferekpe-Obvuduechi-Oyege-Ndufuku Road (2Km) at the cost of Two Hundred and Forty Three Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty One Naira, Sixty-Five Kobo (N243,881,751.65) at Izzi LGA on Direct Labour.

“Ndanmbo–Enuakobo–Umuchima Road (1,078km) at the cost of One Hundred and Twenty One Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty One Naira, Twenty-Four Kobo (N121,999,361.24) at Uburu Ohaozara LGA on direct Labour.

“Additional works on Edda Flyover bridge approved by EXCO on 14/12/21 with an arithmetic error. A memo was presented to correct the arithmetic errors in the earlier approval and EXCO considered and approved the new amount of Six Hundred and Twenty Five Million, Nine Hundred and Eleven Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twelve Naira, Forty Kobo (N625,911,912.40) as against Four Hundred and Sixty Eight Million, Eight Hundred and Ninety Two Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty Naira (N468,892,640.00) earlier approved for the additional work at Edda flyover.

“Etaa Umuchima Road (1.379km) at the cost of One Hundred and Eighty Two Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty Four Naira, Ninety-Seven Kobo (N182,783,644.97) at Ohaozara LGA on direct Labour.

“Exco considered and approved a request to designate a part of the Ebonyi State University land measuring 634,880.767m2 for Private Sector Development, under Public Private Partnership arrangement.

“The total area of the built up portions at the said Ebonyi State University permanent site land is measured at 10,000.89m², while the total area of the un-built up area is measured at 534,890.967m². Exco noted that it had on 31st August 2017 approved that 63.48 hectares of land which originally belonged to EBSU be ceded to Ebonyi State Government for development of residential pocket Layout”, he stated.
