July 15, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have completed the signing of Netherlands striker, Joshua Zirkzee, from Bologna. The 23-year-old has joined the English Premier League club on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Zirkzee impressed last season in Serie A, scoring 12 goals in all competitions for Bologna. His performances earned him a call-up to the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024. The forward previously played for Bayern Munich’s youth and senior teams before spells at Anderlecht and Bologna.
Upon signing for United, Zirkzee said: “It’s a privilege to join such an iconic club. I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies.” He added that he had discussions with the manager and club leaders about the exciting future at Manchester United.
The striker will take a short break after being with the national team but said he will return “ready to make an impact straight away”. United fans will hope Zirkzee can boost their attacking options as they aim to challenge for trophies again next season.
Zirkzee could make his first appearance for United in the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10. The match at Wembley Stadium will give the new signing an early chance to impress in a competitive fixture for his new club.
