April 29, (THEWILL)- Swede Armand Duplantis further stamped his authority ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics by breaking his own pole vault world record with a 6.24-metre effort at the season-opening Diamond League meet on Saturday.
The 24-year-old bettered his previous mark of 6.23m set last September, clearing the bar with ease before celebrating wildly at his first outdoor event of the year. It was the eighth time the Olympic and two-time world outdoor champion reset the world record.
“Conditions willing, it’s definitely possible to go higher. I’m going to maximise every day,” said Duplantis, the only vaulter to clear six metres at the Egret Stadium. “The jumping wasn’t perfect today, even at 6.24m. There’s more to give and higher heights in me.”
Duplantis added a second world indoor title in March and heads to his second Olympics in July and August as the overwhelming favourite.
