September 06, (THEWILL) – Bayana Bayana of South Africa began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign with a 2-2 draw against Uganda at Orlando Stadium on Friday. The match saw dramatic shifts in momentum, with both teams taking the lead at different points.

Lyle Foster opened the scoring for South Africa in the 14th minute, capitalising on a through ball from Khuliso Mudau. Despite dominating the first half, South Africa failed to extend their lead, leaving the score 1-0 at halftime.

Uganda turned the tables in the second half with two long-range goals. Denis Omedi equalised in the 51st minute with a spectacular strike. Just two minutes later, Rogers Mato scored from 40 metres out, catching goalkeeper Veli Mothwa off guard.

South Africa struggled to regain their first-half form but found a late equaliser. Debutant Thalente Mbatha scored in the fifth minute of injury time, salvaging a point for the hosts with a low drive that went in off the post.

The result leaves both teams with one point in Group K. South Africa will face South Sudan away on September 10, while Uganda will host Congo on September 9 as the qualification campaign continues.
