Double Taxation To Soon End In Benue – BIRS Chairman 

February 23, (THEWILL) – Taxpayers will soon breath a sigh of relief on the issuance of fake tickets and multiple taxation as the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), will soon enter into an agreement with a business firm to automate non-paper ticket device.

Executive Chairman of Benue State Internal Revenue Service, Mrs Mimi Adzape Orubibi, disclosed this on Tuesday at the presentation on the theme: “Transport Sector Revenue Growth and Management Tools”, held at the Service Boardroom in Makurdi.

Mrs Orubibi, who stressed the importance of the device called on all stakeholders to embrace the policy, adding that it would eliminate purported issuance of fake receipts to commercial vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles, popularly known as ‘Okada’.

According to the Chairman, the policy has worked effectively in Abia State and has requested the business firm at her instant to come for presentation.

Earlier, Executive Director NEXTZON Business Services Ltd, Mr Segun Olukoya in his presentation, challenged the use of paper ticket in the 21st Century when the world was going digital, adding that the E-ticketing when adopted and put to use by the Service would bring self-service to tax payers and evaluates tickets for enforcement.

According to Mr Olukoya, ticket vending would be directly linked to the plate number of the vehicle and taxpayers would verify the payment on their mobile phones.

He stressed that Super Agents would purchase tickets upfront from the Service and disburse to sales agents at the comfort of their homes.

In their separate reactions, the Board Secretary, Mr James Shankyura and other Directors of the Service, expressed their willingness to embrace the system and pledged to carryout awareness campaign when it comes into force.

The statement signed by the Chief Information Officer of the Service, Mr Paul Nongo, coats the Director of Tax Assessment, Mr Victor Beke as commending Mr Segun Olukoya and his team for the introduction of the E-ticketing, saying it will curb the menace of fake tickets as well as multiple taxation that has been a challenge in the state.

He said the management solicits a robust approach to the development while seeking clarification on green areas to get acquaint themselves with the system.
