October 21, (THEWILL) – The life journey of late economic patriarch, Akintola Williams who died on September 11, came to a final end when his remains were laid to rest on Thursday October 19. Earlier in the week, a special valedictory session was held in his honour by the institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, a professional body he led.
The ceremony heralding the burial of the first black chartered accountant began on Wednesday October 18 with a special Night of Tributes at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos. The following day, funeral proceedings kicked off with a lying-in-state at his residence. This was followed by a funeral service at MUSON Centre, Lagos which had quite a handful of dignitaries from all walks of life in attendance. Proceedings kicked off with a performance by the Muson Choir and Orchestra which was directed by Emeka Nwokedi.
Prominent guests at the funeral included Jim Ovia, Chairman of Zenith Bank; Biodun Shobanjo, Chairman, Troyka Holdings Limited; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; Pastor Mrs Ifeanyi Adefarasin, wife of Paul Adefarasin of the House On The Rock church; Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man among others.
Pa Williams bade the world goodbye at the age of 104 on September 11, 2023. Described as a man of integrity worthy of emulation by Nigerians. Pa Williams died at the age of 104. He is survived by two sons and grandchildren.
