Denmark Thrash San Marino To Boost Euro 2024 Qualification Hopes

September 08, (THEWILL) – Denmark made easy work of San Marino on Thursday, winning 4-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifier to move up to second in Group H.

Despite an early penalty being overturned, the Danes soon took control of the game through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s composed finish. Joakim Maehle doubled their advantage after being set up by Christian Eriksen. Jonas Wind then added a third for Denmark before the break after benefitting from another Eriksen creativity. A late fourth from substitute Yussuf Poulsen rounded off a comfortable victory.

The win sees Denmark rise to 10 points after five games, two behind group leaders Finland and ahead of Slovenia on goal difference in third. While Eriksen pulled the strings for the Danes with three assists, the whole team put in a controlled performance against limited opposition. Maehle and Wind took their goals well to build on Hojbjerg’s opener. Poulsen then came off the bench to wrap up the scoring late on.

Overall, it was a routine three points for Denmark as they brushed San Marino aside with ease. The Danes never looked in trouble and the scoreline reflected their dominance in Copenhagen. The result provides a timely boost to Denmark’s qualification campaign as they seek to chase down Finland at the top of the table.

Denmark have made a solid start on the road to Germany, with this win evidence of their quality within the group. They will now look ahead to their remaining fixtures later this year as they aim to secure qualification.
